Distributors and wholesalers play a pivotal role in the downstream supply chain and have a responsibility for ensuring a safe and secure channel to supply products to customers and patients. Brand owners should have well-documented process in place to select and qualify distributors. The distributor should always be able to identify and verify the channels through which products flow tothe end customer and should be willing/able to provide documentation/evidence of same.
Distributors should have clearly defined and documented process for managing returned products and for secure destruction. These should include designated segregated，secure storage areas，documented processes for identifying and reconcling returned product and for determining whether returned product can be re-introduced into inventory or should be destroyed.
Distributors should utilize reputable reverse logistics provider to manage the handling of unsaleable product intended for return for credit. The reverse logistics provider should have agreements in place with the distributors for securely transporting products from distributor back to the reverse logistics provider's facility for processing.
